Rwanda Gorilla Journey - Nokia Mobile Film Prize

As the prize for the Nokia Mobile Film Competition awarded at the Pangea Day festival in Los Angeles, I was sent to Rwanda for a fully payed experience of the country.

Here I was lucky enough to record gorillas in the wild and put it together into a 5min film for Nokia.

Thanks to everyone at Nokia for this amazing experience.

This is the final video I created for my Architectural Masters Thesis project.
Media and the City is sited on the northern entrance of Park Station, Johannesburg, South Africa. mediaCITY is a transport interchange that promotes participation, interaction and exploration within the site.
It pulls the very fabric of the city right up to each transportation node (Park Station, Gautrain and BRT / Rea Vaya)

iPhone 3g - Goodliness is Godliness

I have been using the iPhone for a few weeks now, and I never want to go back to a normal phone experience. I could now easily go out of internet contact and still feel completely connected through my phone. Sure I have had 'internet' connected phones before, but not like this. Email, is like reading it on your computer, perfectly formatted, even attachments are viewable perfectly without having to install other programs.

Its a revolution.

Every part of the wall is capable of displaying video. It is touch and light sensitive and can be customized further than any computer that currently exists. I created these images for a group project. The project was to create a radical urban design for Sandton. We decided to place the city in 2100 where there is no more oil, or mined metals, the climate is unstable and suburbia is no longer viable.

A Zed and Two Noughts Network Diagram

This is a network diagram of the characters in the Peter Greenaway movie, A Zed and Two Noughts.

Peter Greenaway’s A Zed and Two Noughts (1985) shows how layered the simple aftereffects of an event (car accident) can be. His tale is in actual fact not really about an accident at all. The collision of a car with a swan is merely the catalyst for a narrative that links three disparate characters; twins (whose wives have died in the accident), Darwin (with his theory of evolution and Vermeer (the famous Dutch painter) (Greenaway 1985). Thus by adding a random event or character Peter Greenaway manages to warp the narrative of his film allowing ever bigger circles of satellite characters to begin orbiting around the three characters.

RENT - Alexandra Theater 8 out of 5!

I recently saw RENT at the Alexandra Theater in Braamfontein.
This is likely to be one of the best musicals in Johannesburg for the year (if not the decade). The cast was simply staggering. Ilse Klink who plays Joanne Jefferson was flawless in her sinning part and Zane Gillion who plays the ever interesting Angel (a transexual) could compare favorably to the original Broadway actor.
I must say that I am very tempted to go watch it again and am currently listening to the soundtrack as I type this out.

Global Studio is drawing to a close. Even though I was at first involved in the environmental groups, in the end I moved over to the information group. It was an interesting ride. Along the way we had to create a survey, the front of which (that I designed) is the first image. The second image shows how we are going to give the community the information that we gathered from the survey.
